One of his minions showed us a very interesting pieces of software on kinetic typography and shared his views of what he liked and disliked of them. He also discussed interesting concepts of kinetic imagery and applications to it. I was intrigued and inspired by future applications of this program such as using it in motion capturing and allowing a live audience to interact with the words on the screen or in a unique installation.

This is my first blog entry due to a few technical mishaps that have not allowed me to attend the first class. That and the fact that I rarely blog, I have found myself a bit at unease in getting into the rhythm of things.

My thoughts are sporadic and at times non-conjunction, thus finding yourself confused at times with what I have posted is quite normal.

off topic: I find it quite interesting how far typography has reached and is able to communicate many aspects of language in which turn is a representation of a culture. studying history for a few years in my past has increased my thirst for understanding the concept of the written word and the defining it in a space and multiple mediums.

Now looking at the assignment for the last week. I found it a bit… different then the norm that is asked for. From the approach of the analogical exploration of a letter to the manipulation of the appearance of a poem. The topic is precise yet the manners of exploring are broad which is a wonderful experience on its own since it is something that has seldomly been done in my educational career.

Well, that’s why I chose this class. To explore other aspects of art that I’m interested in, to broaden my awareness so as not to become narrow minded and asymmetrical in my ways of thought. Though my interests truly lie in 3d animation I am quite fond of the evolution of the written word. Typography is interesting to me because it defines a language, which in turn defines a culture- a people, and I am very interested in people and their behaviours, views, and thoughts.
